Identify the symptom

  • Shader compilation: sharp hitching when an effect or location appears for the first time, then less severe on repeat.
  • Sustained FPS drop: frame rate remains low in the same scene and follows graphics load.
  • Frame pacing: average FPS looks acceptable but motion feels uneven.
  • Network latency: players teleport, inputs confirm late, or actions rubber-band while local animation remains smooth.

Controlled test

  1. Use the same location, route, resolution, and preset for each comparison.
  2. Change one setting at a time and record average FPS plus visible hitching.
  3. Test frame generation separately from upscaling; it can improve displayed FPS without reducing input latency.
  4. Repeat a route once to distinguish first-seen shader work from a persistent problem.

Settings and driver caution

DLSS, FSR, TSR, and frame generation trade image quality, latency, and GPU load differently. A recommendation without GPU model, base frame rate, and resolution is not verified.
